Catherine Walker is counting the seconds until she finishes high school and can leave the upscale suburban enclave where she’s lived all her life where swimming is the local religion. The town itself is defined by its swim team, faux rural character, too much money, and a sense of privilege and entitlement off the charts. When the murder of a classmate’s mother occurs, her status as an outsider will prove to be nearly fatal. All that privilege works against her as she faces being a lone voice in a community dedicated to protecting its own. She is the only person who can refute the killer’s alibi, and her time to expose him is shrinking as he stalks her and tries to silence her permanently.
